Most individuals equate Eclipse to an IDE. Unfortunately, the new name has two core problems in my opinion. It is strongly agreed upon by many developers that Silverlight as a name allowed it to have better adoption due to being simple, inviting, and memorable. One case study that I love referring to is how Microsoft Silverlight was originally going to be named WPF/E. The ability for a platform to effectively market itself to business owners and architects makes a strong impact on adoption. It takes more than just pure tech to succeed in the marketplace. In the real world, platforms that rise to prominence aren't always the best from a technical point of view. Just because I posted it doesn't mean I have to be pleased with it.
